Eagle Creek Church is a non-denominational Christian church, which means it is an independent church that is not governed by a larger denomination like the Baptist, Methodist, or Presbyterian organizations. Eagle Creek teaches historic, Bible-based Christianity and has served the Lee’s Summit and Kansas City area since 2004.
A denomination is a family of churches that share one organizational structure — like Southern Baptist, United Methodist, or Assemblies of God. A non-denominational church isn’t part of one of those families. It governs itself, chooses its own pastors, and goes straight to the Bible as its guide for what it teaches.
Non-denominational does not mean “not Christian” or “believes whatever it wants.” Eagle Creek holds the same core beliefs Christians have held for two thousand years.
- The Bible is God’s inspired Word and the trustworthy guide for faith and daily life.
- One God in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Christians call this the Trinity).
- Jesus Christ is the Son of God: born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on a cross for our sins, and physically rose from the dead.
- Salvation is a free gift. No one earns their way to God; we receive forgiveness and new life by trusting in what Jesus did on our behalf.
- The Church exists for people. Its mission is to reach people who are far from God and help them be filled with life in Christ.
- The Holy Spirit gives power for everyday living, growth, and healing — spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Fair question — it’s one of the most common concerns about independent churches. Eagle Creek is led through a shared leadership model built specifically so that no major decision rests with one individual.
The Lead Pastor provides the church’s overall spiritual leadership and vision. He leads the teaching ministry, equips the staff, and helps guide the direction of Eagle Creek Church.
The Board of Deacons also serves as the governing board of Eagle Creek Church, providing legal and financial oversight while supporting the church’s mission. (A deacon is a trusted, appointed leader who helps oversee and serve the church.) The Lead Pastor sits on this board as one member among the other deacons — every member has an equal voice. The board oversees significant matters such as:
- Financial stewardship and budgeting
- Major purchases and property decisions
- Staff compensation and other significant financial commitments
- Other important decisions affecting the church as a whole
The church staff handles day-to-day ministry and operations — kids, students, worship, groups, outreach, events, and administration — making the daily decisions needed to care for people and carry out the church’s mission.
This structure balances strong spiritual leadership with real accountability: the Board of Deacons provides oversight and governance, while the staff is empowered to lead daily ministry. Major decisions are made prayerfully by a team, not by one person.
Labels only help so much, but here’s the honest picture: the teaching is Bible-based and practical, the worship is modern (a live band, current songs), and the atmosphere is casual and family-focused. The best way to know if it fits is to visit once — Thursdays at 6:30pm or Sundays at 9:00 and 10:30am.
For most people, what matters day to day is what a church teaches, how it treats people, and whether their family can grow there. If you’re coming from a denominational background, you’re welcome at Eagle Creek exactly as you are, and no one will ask you to renounce where you came from.
